_______Summer, 2002____

It saddens me to tell you that I lost a dealer and good friend recently, Dick Dickerson. He and his wife Cindy started buying oil when we first moved to Albany and later became dealers.  They used a lot as they traveled all over GA, FL, AL, etc, repairing Lotto machines.  It was very sudden and I will miss him.

CONGRATULATIONS

JAMES & CHARLOTTE BUTLER from Maryland (sp sd) are Account Directs!  We’ve known this couple since before Amsoil days, back in the 70’s, and this is really exciting.

Jim and Charlotte are a fantastic couple, know more about this type of business than I ever will, and have a good nucleus of dealers, customers, and accounts.

They both “talk about their business”, whether they are in the grocery store or just visiting friends.

Their pictures are in the April issue of the “Action News”, although they accomplished the achievement in Jan.

I know they will be Direct Jobbers by the 2003 Convention!!!

I can hardly keep up with Premiere Direct Jobbers MIKE & EILEEN KAUFMAN from Michigan!

They just keep showing up in the “Action News” as third for most qualified dealers and account! (April & May issues).

They are a young couple with one set of twins, plus one, all under three,  but instead of excuses they just keep moving at a super fast pace.

They have the enthusiasm to go all the way in this business, and I know they will!  They are both 100% Amsoil Dealers! Visit their website at guarding-our-earth.com.

JIM & JULIE GRAYDON Executive Direct Jobbers from Florida  have been in Amsoil since the 70’s, and it wasn’t their first successful business.  When we moved to the panhandle of Florida, we ran across a newspaper ad for dealers in another business.

We got an appointment to meet Rick & Fay Patterson, with an up front approach for a business they could add to their already successful one.  When we got there at 8 PM, Faye was watching a TV show which would end at 10 PM.  Ever talk small talk for 2 hours?  We did, and learned later that they would NOT have gotten involved if we hadn’t!  Actually, we showed them another business, but mentioned Amsoil in passing.

A few days later we all went to see Jim and Julie in Ft. Walton Beach.  They were primarily interested in Amsoil, and made DJ shortly afterwards.  They also had another very successful business at the time.

Graydons  sponsored ROBERT & JOYCE NICHOLS (Ga.) who are Premier Directs.   Bob was a truck driving customer of Jim’s.   (I’m sure glad we small talked  for 2 hours, and by the way, Rick & Fay are still in Amsoil.)

JOE & RUTH CANFIELD (NJ) also had a great month…along with their dealers Norman & Faye Brown (SC)  Congratulations guys!

Why have I gone into a little more detail on these successful Directs than usual?  Because I am proud of their accomplishments and I want everyone to know them as people and not just a name.

This is more than “filler”.  It is important to convey the fact that you never know who, or when someone might become successful.   I’ve said it before, but the only way to have the security I know you ALL want is to sponsor dealers. This also proves they don’t all drop out of Amsoil like they do in so many other businesses.

WHY?  Because of the products!  Dealers will pay $20 a year just to get them at wholesale and who knows when their situation will change and it becomes a commitment…remember…it took us 20 years!

Others who are moving along include Duane Roark (Ga) and his dealers Dale Blanchard (Ga); Esmeralda Paddock (NY) & their dealers the Jensens (NE);  Mike Motto (PA); James & Julie Seiple (PA);  George & Carmen Silva (TX). Mitch & Vicki Starling  (GA). &  Mark Grenier(NH)

Congratulations to everyone on an excellent month!

     WEBSITE OFFER

I got an E-mail the other day from a web hosting company and want to pass it along to you.  I can not officially endorse it, but I decided to take advantage of it myself.   A website company (NOT an Amsoil dealer) is offering a site which links to the Amsoil Corp. site for $15.00 per month.  It would be customized with your name and contact information as well as your ZO#.   This is transferred to the Amsoil corporate site and shopping cart.  What this means is that any contacts or sales you get would be yours.   Once your site is up (24 -48 hrs from the form submission), you can verify your hidden ZO# by running the mouse over one of the corp. links on the left.  Do NOT click.  This will assure you get your credit for everything.

There is a sample  of this at

http://www.syntheticoils.net

 (syntheticoils.net/dirksen)

the contact E-mail address is:

info@silvercityonline.net & the phone number is :

505-388-4801.   (Travis Bradfute or Jeff)

I suggest you check it out for yourselves.  The computer is here to stay, just like the automobile, so why not take advantage of it. Your own computer is not mandatory, because you can have a contact phone # for “more information” and anything purchased is treated as a “catalogue customer”.

The company not only hosts this site for $15.00 a month, they also maintain & update it, make sure the links work, check for search engine friendly key words, & submit it to 500,000 search engines every month. This service alone is usually $39.00+ a month.  I might add that Amsoil does not do this.  There are no contracts and you can terminate at any time.  They assure me they have had e-mail

Communication with Tony Rogers, the Webmaster at Amsoil, and he is 100% in favor of dealer websites, what ever method they choose. You can’t get these services anywhere, and even if you have your own site, either thru Amsoil or privately hosted, there is nothing wrong with having a second.

If you only get ONE direct jobber, isn’t it worth it? And no matter what you sell now, it would be “gravy” over and above the volume you & your dealers are currently doing.

You will not become a millionaire over night, but compare this cost to a newspaper add, and I think you will realize how cheap it really is.

Think seriously about this & check it out for yourselves.

Please let me know what you decide. (if you do decide to try it, give it at least 6 mo.)

NEVER BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING NEW…REMEMBER:  A LONE AMATEUR BUILT   THE ARK WHILE A LARGE GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS “BUILT THE TITANIC

Speaking of computers

I finally got a new “DELL” and love it! (under $1000)  My old one had windows ’95, so guess how old it was? (I now have Windows XP).  Mine pre-dated the net days!  It now has a new home with a shelter for battered women & children who use it for preparing job resumes, homework, and games.  Remember: if you update, someone out there can always use your old equipment!

I might also add that if you don’t have one, you might consider it.  If I can figure it out, anyone can, and it sure makes newsletters easier!  It even corrects my spelling AND grammar!

You can get reconditioned ones for very little and replace hardware as needed.   They are here to stay, and have so many uses; you will never know how you lived without one.  It is also tax deductible!

BRIAN  LOHMEYER (SC) & his wife KATHERINE ANDERSON attended the Amsoil Lubrication School in Superior, WI recently and WOW, were they excited!   I’m not sure if he was more excited about all he learned, or meeting the other dealers from across the country.    What a couple!  I already told him they will be Direct Jobbers at the July, 2003 Convention!   Calls like that is what motivation is all about.  YOU cannot motivate your dealers, no matter what you do, but they can sure motivate you!  That is why sponsoring is so important…it is your dealers who will keep YOU going!

THE HARDEST PART OF THIS BUSINESS FOR ME

Is unpacking my Amsoil orders…Boy, do I hate that!  The main problem with this business is that everything is heavy!  Of course, I have the UPS man trained and he just puts them in my office, whether I am home or not, so that helps.   I love taking phone calls from customers, preferred customers, accts, and dealers far away who call me to turn in their orders and I don’t mind the wait for a girl to become available.   I certainly don’t mind anyone calling with questions, and that is why I have an 800#, just for you!  I really enjoy getting calls and E-Mails from everyone, & I certainly enjoy going to the bank!  Guess you just can’t have everything, so I will keep unpacking those orders!!!

When we first started all over in Albany, we owed everyone, Glenn was on dialysis 3Xwk, and I went to work full time to support our habit …eating!   Now I am home full time with my mother who moved here from Arizona last year, her two Boston Terrier pups and 2 cats, and my peek-a-pom pup and 20 yr. old Pomeranian.  It keeps us both busy, but beats working for someone else.

Of course, I work on holidays and “after 5PM”, but think about it…what do you want in 10 years…that is the time it took us, working together a few hours here and there to get the freedom and financial security I now can enjoy.  I might add that I am debt free and have a full refrigerator,  which wasn’t always true.

THIS IS WHY YOU SPONSOR DEALERS. SECURITY FOREVER!

WOULD YOU HAVE FOLLOWED UP ?

80% of all sales are made               after the 5th call

48% of people make one call & quit.

25% quit after 2 calls.

12% quit after 3 calls

15% of people keep selling and make 80% of the sales.

This includes sponsoring as well as sales.  Which group are you in?  It is called persistence!  Thanks to Bob Spence, Shirley Green’s son.

WE MISS 100% OF THE SALES & DEALERS WE DON’T ASK FOR!

WHY SEND NEWSLETTERS

If you have 5 dealers, you should be sending newsletters.  This puts you in contact as a leader with YOUR dealers.  They all get mine anyway, so no fair cheating and copying!   Seriously, do you know how many times I get a phone call from a downline dealer who doesn’t know who his sponsor is?   They don’t have to be complicated, just write a one page letter and let them know you are there, even if you see them all the time.

Let them know you will help them, and you want them to call if they get discouraged or have a stumbling block they can’t seem to get over.  You can write in long hand, use a typewriter, and have them copied by someone else.  Trust me; it is important to develop this leadership and trust within YOUR personal group.  Be sure not to forget your preferred customers and retail customers…remember where your dealers come from.  ALL are important.

A GOAL IS A DREAM WITH A DEADLINE

What is your goal?   Is it to work for the next 30 or 40 years at a 9-5 job because you love it so much? That is great!  Or do you want the security which will send your kids to college, buy what you want at the grocery store (including the ‘expensive sugar cereals’), get out of debt, be able to think about an early retirement while you can enjoy it, or just keep your head above water?  I’ve been there!  WHAT DOES IT TAKE?  Not much.  All you have to do is talk to people.  Go to the Dr., the restaurant, the gas station, the laundry mat, the grocery store, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc, etc!  Just talk!  You don’t go door to door, “bug your friends or relatives” (a sure way of failing), or actually work.  You just take advantage of an opportunity when it presents itself.   I wouldn’t want anyone to go out of their way to be successful!   Try a 3rd person approach “Do you know anyone who wants to make a little money on the side?  I want to expand my business in your area.”  People are funny…they always ask, “What business are you in?”  Do I really need to tell you what to say next???

Yellow Page ads, weekly Newspaper ads, flyers in malls, car windshields, flea markets, farm auctions, fairs, also work… ANYWHERE THERE ARE PEOPLE!  It works!
